Boozhoo Coffee Company Expands its Native American Brand Internationally
On January 1st, 2019 Native American entrepreneur and business strategist, Curtis DeCora, launched a coffee company in Hayward Wisconsin called, “Boozhoo Premium Coffee.” The concept was to deliver premium roasted coffee beans directly from the roaster to your front door within just 1-2 days (depending on shipping methods).
Significance of Culture and Language
Boozhoo is a greeting that means, “Hello” in the Ojibwe language. Ojibwe, otherwise known as Chippewa, Ojibwa or Ojibway and known to its own speakers as Anishinabe or Anishinaabemowin in the North American Great Lakes region. DeCora, an enrolled member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, mentions always having pride in his background and heritage.
Premium coffee is a process which includes hand selected and hand harvested beans roasted in small batch roasting drums.
DeCora, wanted to place a premium product into the market by leveraging the beauty of language and culture of the Ojibwe people. The clashing of the most consumed product in the United States, using premium raw materials, branded with culture and language in mind has proven to be an exceptionally successful strategy.
New Developments and Market Demand
In 2019, Boozhoo Premium Coffee sold coffee via e-commerce into all fifty (50) states in the U.S. and four (4) foreign countries. As the 2019 season came to an end, Boozhoo Premium Coffee was selling 400+ lbs of coffee per month to individual consumers directly through the website at www.boozhoo-coffee.us, along with retail partners in their grocery or convenience stores.
In 2020, Boozhoo Premium Coffee will rebrand as Boozhoo Coffee Company by partnering with a distributor and Wisconsin-based roaster. This new partnership will increase retail partners to 1,500, a 75,000% increase in volume from 2019.
An additional resource includes partnering with The Brown Yak Traders, a Himalayan coffee roasting company from Nepal. The Brown Yak Traders offer a premium craft coffee bean roasted in small batches. Boozhoo Coffee Company will sell their products on their website as well as help them develop their distribution channel and become a mentor for future business development efforts.
The market demand has come in the form of premium roasted coffee, hand selected, and hand harvested, roasted and shipped overnight. The best selling coffee has been the 6-bean espresso coffee labeled as the “Pow Wow Blend.” 83% of all sales, new and recurring have been in favor of the Pow Wow Blend.
Boozhoo Coffee Company will also have three business-partners in 2020. A business-partner is identified as a cafe or coffee shop that exclusively sell Boozhoo Coffee on air pots, by the cup, by the bag, and through specialty drinks. These locations include, Detroit, Michigan, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Boozhoo Coffee Company will continue the primary roasts of coffee. The Boozhoo Blend is a lightly roasted breakfast blend. Warrior Blend is a light-to-medium roasted premium coffee bean with extra robusta for an additional kick of caffeine. The Niijii (Ojibwe for “friend”) Blend, is a true medium roasted premium coffee bean. Finally, the Pow Wow Blend, is a dark roasted and extremely smooth 6-bean espresso coffee bean.
