National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association (NESTA) Predicts the Future of The Fitness Industry
As the growing COVID-19 pandemic continues to create serious challenges and hindrances for the fitness industry, NESTA fitness association reveals what the status of the fitness business will be like.

Rancho Santa Margarita, CA – May 04, 2020 – The world is not the same like it was a few months back. When 2019 was ending, nobody thought that the new year would hold such a shock for everybody. Generally, people start every new year with a resolution that they would want to maintain throughout the next 365 days. These resolutions focus on personal growth so that one gets better with time.

Needless to say, most of these resolutions revolve around losing those extra pounds or getting fitter with each passing day. And these go hand in hand with gyms or sports. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic creating havoc around the world, sticking to these resolutions aren’t easy anymore. Why? That’s exactly because the future of the fitness industry has also been hugely affected by this pandemic.

Most countries are in lockdown along with many practicing self-distancing. Public places are shut and mass gatherings are prohibited. Amid all this, the world has seen gyms close due to COVID-19. From personal trainers working from home to athletes stuck indoors, the situation for the fitness business couldn’t have been any worse. It’s clear that these have posed serious challenges for those into fitness and sports.

In terms of predictions, the NESTA fitness association has revealed some interesting points about how this pandemic will change the future of the fitness industry forever. National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association or NESTA, gives several crucial pointers about how the industry needs to reinvent themselves and adopt a more technology and internet driven model to keep their industry alive. It’s true that the industry is going through a major pivot, but this doesn’t mean that its future is bleak. According to NESTA, the fitness industry is not going away now, in the near future…or ever. However, it needs to be prepared for some massive shifts occurring now, and in the next 3 to 6 months.

The predictions they have made for the fitness industry are based on available data, interviews with industry icons, formal and informal surveys, feedback from their students and graduates, and their observations based on experience of nearly 30 years in the fitness industry.

Trainers will now have to reinvent themselves and find ways of reaching out to people through the online space. This is the perfect time for leveraging on online coaching and training. Personal training will see a surge and comeback as social distancing has become the new normal for everybody. Along with this, NESTA also believes that outdoor fitness and training will become huge as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their predictions also touch upon other points like hybrid models of gyms, training clients at home, how fitness franchises and small and big box gyms will be affected, and more.
