Digital Mortar launches smartphone app for real-time store occupancy tracking and alerting

Digital Mortar, a leading provider of traffic and shopper analytics, has introduced Occupancy Alert – a real-time occupancy management and alerting system for intelligently managing Covid-19 reopening. The application monitors occupancy for entire facilities and for specific areas, it delivers real-time IOS/Android messaging when at or near key occupancy thresholds and can be integrated into digital signage to provide crowding information and control.

Because of the current crisis, Digital Mortar is providing the Occupancy Alert solution free to their existing customers. For other facilities with existing people-counting infrastructure, Digital Mortar will integrate their existing solutions into Occupancy Alert (meaning no new hardware or installation), and will only charge for cloud-costs on Microsoft Azure. For facilities without real-time capable people-counting, Digital Mortar will facilitate the (at cost) rapid installation of 3D people counting sensors for occupancy measurement.

According to Digital Mortar CEO, Gary Angel, the goal of Occupancy Alert is to help stores navigate the challenging post lock-down phase of Covid-19. “Stores face a confusing welter of local regulations and continued uncertainty. It will be vital not just to re-open, but to re-open in a way that builds trust with both consumers and regulators. That will often mean finding ways to efficiently manage crowding and social distancing – and we think Occupancy Alert is a useful tool to do that.”

Key features of Occupancy Alert for include:

Realtime.

A view into the number of people currently within your stores – in aggregate and by zone.

Alerting.

Surface occupancy alerts directly and instantly to Associates with push notifications to manage proper social distancing and improve customer trust during Covid-19 reopening.

Customizable Distribution.

Specify which roles — managers, salesclerks, stockers, etc. should receive which type of alerts. Or let individuals create their own alert set.

Manual Mode: A manual mode is also available for associates to facilitate counting functions while still receiving the same reporting and alerting app benefits.

Flexible Settings.

Flexibly assign and change occupancy threshold settings as health guidelines evolve.

Enterprise Configuration.

A centralized web portal allows for the creation/management of store locations and user profiles.  Occupancy alert triggers, user roles and permission levels may all be managed in the administrative portal.

Integration: Use your existing real-time capable door-counting system with no integration charges, no hardware or implementation costs, and only Azure cloud costs for Occupancy Alert.

Regarding the decision to provide Occupancy Alert free to existing clients and at cost to anyone else, Angel says, “Everyone knows how brutal this environment has been. Frankly, this isn’t an expensive product for us to deliver – it just builds on existing software and technology we do all the time. We’re just hoping to help people stay in business and give them something useful so that when things begin to be normal, they might turn into real clients.”
