Learning Centre and Academic Support for K-12 Students in GTA, Ontario

August 24, 2020 – As plans have been made across the province about students coming back to school, parents still raise legitimate concerns about the health and safety of their own children. Many parents continue to opt out for remote methods of instruction. While distant education is still in noticeably big demand, high quality online instruction is hard to find.

Read Write Think is a learning support located in Vaughan, Ontario. We offer academic support for K-12 students that require 1-on-1 tutoring and small group instruction. We welcome and help homeschoolers. We provide our services at the centre or online with a highly skilled and dedicated tutors. Easy highway access allows students from other neighboring cities such as Richmond Hill, North York, Mississauga and more to reach us easily.

Here at Read Write Think, we offer dense, information-packed sessions in literacy, writing, oral presentation, executive functioning and math. We keep our teacher to student ratio low to ensure instructors are able to connect with each individual student and leave an impact during sessions.

Our services are based on the direct instruction methodology that is proved to be the most efficient way of teaching students. We offer 1-on-1 tutoring, small groups classes, online tutoring, homeschooling, summer camps & PD days as well as test preparation.

Our literacy workshops revolve around character exploration. Students look at significant characters in history and explore their personalities. Which character qualities made them significant? What inspires me personally? Do I share anything with them? Students leave inspired after they have learned something new about themselves and substantial historical figures.

Our writing workshop is a crash course for key points in essay writing. Students create a toolbox of knowledge which they readily use in classrooms. They explore major differences in persuasive, narrative, descriptive and expository writing. Tons of students have found this workshop useful and easy to apply to school life.

Our math workshop is getting set, on the mark, compete! Compete with yourself and your peers in this fun-packed logical problem-solving week. Students practise solving word problems daily and get pleasantly surprised at their own progress. At the end, students are proud to be awarded a colourful certificate of participation.

Our executive functioning workshop is intended for students who lack learning skills. They learn to meet deadlines, chunk assignments, be on time, organize their space and materials, set goals and celebrate successes. They are assigned daily practical tasks, such as organize their personal space during the course of the workshop. Participants leave equipped with tools to become more successful learners, responsible for their own learning.

Our oral presentation skills workshop is designed for those who experience stage fright and loss of words at the perspective of facing the audience. We teach techniques of successful speeches and offer solutions to alleviating stage anxiety. We talk about a right proportion and balance of Google Slides and Power Points versus presenter presence and information delivery.

Our handwriting workshop is created for younger learners who practise printing and for older students who study cursive. There is a big debate about the practicality of handwriting, and the consensus is such – handwriting might not matter, but the process of learning it does. Students, as they become better writers, experience increased attention, improved ability to sustain boredom, and many more.
